Purpose:
A precedent is a project done in the real world that can be used to help explain some of the ideas that will be covered in the studio or project. Students should locate and critically evaluate precedents and demonstrate how the content relates back to their projects.
Prompt:
Consider the feedback that you received during the critique. What suggestions or recommendations were offered? A good way to further investigate this feedback is with precedent analysis. Within your project folder, each group member will find 3 precedents related to your project. Precedents generally fall into a number of categories - conceptual, aspirational, and comparable.
Each precedent should embody one of the following criteria:
- Should serve as inspiration for your project
- Give context for useful perspectives
- Offer guidelines for making & materials
- Reference for style & approach
Each group member should post their 3 precedents in their project folder under the "Resources" tab. Be sure to include a link to your source and a very brief description of why you chose this as a precedent.
