Every great story or video game begins in the rich imagination of the creator. By considering all the elements of the world they will create, these creators can craft rich worlds that feel as real as the one you inhabit. Consider texts like Star Wars, Dune, Hunger Games, the Marvel Universe, Final Fantasy, and other works of sweeping science-fiction and fantasy that you love. How many elements did their creators have to consider to make the world rich and full? 

Now you are going to try your hand at building a world from your imagination. Your task in this studio is to create a hybrid world that combines fantastical elements from space (and sci-fi) and the world around you. Ultimately, you'll navigate this hybrid world through your phone. 

Instructions

1. Discussion

• Visit the 'Resources' tab to access a brief slide deck that will guide you through this step.
• Discuss with your teacher works of fantasy that you enjoy. What specific elements of that world are appealing to you? (e.g., the way inanimate objects like paintings, photographs and chocolate frogs come to life in Harry Potter)

2.Survey Fill

Start to imagine a world that combines your everyday life and elements of the other-worldly. Start describing your hybrid world based on the following prompts by filling the attached survey:

Here are some support questions 

• What planet, country, region, and town/city is the story set in? If it's a fantasy place, decide on a name for your world.
• Climate
• What is the geography like? What are the physical features of the area or space (City vs. Suburban, vs. Nature)
• Resources
• Power/Energy sources
• Vibe of the place
• Transportation systems 
• What can be smelled?
• What can be seen?
• What can be heard?
• What are the prominent colors in the environment?
• What are the weather conditions? pick a season
• Is everyone human? Are there aliens? If so, what do they look like? 
• Does everyone speak the same language? 
• Is there music playing in the world? Background sounds? What does that sound like?
• Are there animals? Do they make sound?
• How do people have fun?  

3. Sketching

Create a sketch of your world using any medium of your choice, whether it's traditional drawing tools like pencils and paper, or digital platforms such as tablets and design software.

Optional: You may create a moodboard using Canva or other editing software.

Deliverable

A post in the "responses tab" that includes: 

• Scan/photo of your survey filled
• Sketch of your world
